About the Scholarship
How
many scholarships are awarded?
There will be three $500 scholarships awarded this spring, which will be in the form of a voucher for textbooks. One scholarship is reserved for one UNCG freshman and two are for high school students who are planning to attend any 2-year or 4-year college in Fall 2012. Students will also be awarded two mentors from UNC Greensboro. One will be a first-generation college student and the other will be a professor. These mentors will commit to provide support for the awardees during their first or second year of higher education.
How may the scholarship be used?
Upon submission of evidence that you plan to enroll in a post secondary program in Fall 2012, the scholarship will be provided and may be used to help defray the costs of college textbooks.
When will the 2012 scholarships be awarded?
The scholarships will be awarded at a celebration event to be hosted at UNCG’s School of Education in May 2012. Recipients, applicants, family, and friends are all welcome to attend the event, which is also open to the UNCG and Greensboro communities.
Who is eligible for the scholarship?
The Access and Equity scholarships are available to students who are seniors or recent graduates from one of four Guilford County high schools (Andrews, Eastern, Smith, and Southern) or in their first year of study at UNCG and who are the first in their family to attend college. In addition, we want to support students who have some degree of financial need.
